ABOUT US
We (Katherine Jones and Sion Llwyd) are both chartered Architects based in Cardiff, South Wales. We are passionate about pairing modern designs with a respectful appreciation of existing buildings across projects of all sizes. Whether you are considering a small extension, a refurbishment or a new build, we make it our priority to tease out moments of joy and fun in every project. We approach each brief differently and with a personalised appraisal that reflects the different briefs of our clients, the characters of their homes and the site's context. With our years of experience we confidently transform houses into beautiful, functional homes with refined modern detail.
We are an intentionally small team, so you can have confidence that you deal with us directly. We work through every element of the design ourselves, alongside you. We pride ourselves on being clear communicators that will walk you through what can seem like a daunting undertaking for some. At each project stage we provide detailed documents and advice to make the process exactly what it should be - fun and exciting. At every stage we also give you a roadmap of what to expect and to make the process flow easily. It is our belief that architecture is best approached as a team, and therefore we put emphasis on collaborating with consultants and contractors to manage the project through the planning process to completion on site.
We both studied at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff for seven years, and gained three degrees along the way. Since qualifying as chartered Architects, we have worked for various commercial and residential architecture practices in London and Cardiff: Katherine’s experience ranges from the largest architecture practice in Foster + Partners to volunteering with the humanitarian architecture charity, Article 25, as well as working for smaller practices in between. Sion has worked on sectors as diverse as train stations, laboratories and hotels. We started Llwyd Jones Architects from a place of passion for bespoke residential architecture and seeing how our designs can make a positive impact on the way clients use and feel about their homes.
As well as being architects we are both artists. Sion's work in illustration and as a portrait artist, is often iterative and works alongside the architecture, using transferable skills such as interpreting and testing a client's brief. Katherine creates intricately detailed drawings which connect people to the places they love. Having been heavily influenced by her architectural background, she has created commissions for organisations including St Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust and the National Trust, including Waddesdon Manor.
